As the semester comes to a close, it is very important for you to work with the staff to ensure a smooth check-out process.
Spring 2021 Checkout Process
Prepare
Residents should begin taking items home throughout the Spring 2021 semester. This will make the final move-out process much easier.
- As final examinations are mostly online, residents may check out at any time by contacting the Housing and Residence Life office.
- Residents who depart prior to April 29, will utilize the Express Checkout Process.
- Simply go to the HRL office between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. to turn in your keys.
- If you depart outside of these hours, please place your key in an Express Checkout envelope located in the After Hours Drop Box outside the Housing Office in the center of Ragsdale/Mendenhall.
- NO OUTSIDE GUESTS ARE PERMITTED IN THE HALLS DURING THIS TIME.
Checkout and Departure
All residents are required to return their key and depart the residence hall 24 hours after the completion of their last scheduled final examination. The residence halls will closed for the Spring 2021 semester at noon on Saturday, May 8 (for graduating seniors).
Community desks or designated checkout locations will be setup and staff in each residential community. Students will receive an email from the CRL/RCC of their area by April 1, 2021, outlining the checkout process and including the link to indicate when you plan to checkout.
Important for Spring
- Residents will be allowed ONE outside person (non-residential student) to assist them for ONE hour inside of the residence halls. For example, if you sign up to check out at 2pm, you can have one person in the residence hall from 1pm-2pm to assist you with carrying belongings. You will indicate who this person will be when you sign up for a checkout time. No one is permitted in the residence halls who has not been submitted on the Checkout Sign-Up.
- Residents will not have their room inspected prior to checkout. Residents will turn in their key at the designated checkout location for their area. Rooms will be inspected after residents depart and any damage will be billed for at that time.
- There will be an RA on duty 24-hours a day starting at 7pm on April 28th- May 8th at noon.
- If a resident needs to stay more than 24 hours after their last final, they will need permission from the CRL/RCC for their hall. No resident will be permitted to stay past Saturday, May 8th at noon.
- Current Spring 2021 residents who have completed a Sumer 2021 Housing Application by April 23 will be allowed to stay in their current Spring 2021 assignment until they relocate to their summer housing assignment the following week.

During 23-hour quiet hours, noise levels should be kept to a minimum and contained within individual rooms. From 8-9 p.m. each evening, there will be a Courtesy Hour when noise expectations are relaxed. It is important to note that HRL is committed to providing a quiet atmosphere, conducive to studying. Noise violations will be taken seriously and students will be held accountable using the student conduct process.
If you need to check out of the residence halls prior to Reading Day, you will need to return your room key to Housing and Residence Life using the express check-out envelope in the after hours drop box outside the office in the center of Ragsdale/Mendenhall.
Students who need to stay beyond the regular check out time (24 hours after their last exam) should select the preferred date of check out on their hall check-out form. This check-out form link will be sent to students by their CRL in a separate email.
You will be able to stay in your current room until noon on Saturday, May 8.
As you move out of your room, please continue to practice safety precautions to keep the residence halls and students safe:
- Only one outside guest is permitted to help a resident move out. This is only permitted from April 29-May 7, and the person has to be pre-registered.
- Remember to lock room doors when no one is in the room.
- Don’t allow “tailgaters” into the hall unless you know that they live in the hall. (No one should be entering the halls without access, or escort)
- Remember to lock car doors when moving your items out unless you have someone at your vehicle to monitor your belongings.
- Call University Police immediately to report any suspicious behavior you observe in and around the residence halls.
If you leased a MicroFridge for the academic year, you need to make sure it is emptied and clean before your departure. The leasing company will be picking up the MicroFridges the week of graduation. Please contact them if you have any questions.
Please take your bikes home over the summer. If you will live on campus during summer school, please email bike@uncg.edu with your contact information and bike registration number. Bikes that remain on campus without authorization will be tagged as abandoned and impounded by campus police.
